I have been online for 22 years now (yep, I was around back then LoL) since August of 1987 and over that time I have met some really wonderful people that I consider friends and family. Some of these people were around and helped keep me going when all else seemed so black and I will never be able to thank them enough for that.
I am going to say thank you in the order in which I met everyone.
When I first came online and they first had newsgroups (this is way before AOL and ISPs), I first met some very wonderful people in a newsgroup called alt.romance.chat (arc'rs). We even had gatherings and met one another, we wrote stories, and that's how my name (gemr) came about. Gemr was a character that I wrote part of a story around. The others in the group had characters that they wrote stories about. I guess you could say we had role-playing of a different sort LoL -- Gemr was a green-eyed indian maiden who believed in romance, which is very much like I am. I met some wonderful people in those days...Blade, Yoda, CatWoman, so many more, too numerous to mention. I have lost touch with most of them due to our lives going separate directions (as I said this was 22 years ago), but I will always dearly remember and love those days and their friendships. Some of them kept me on the straight and narrow when I dearly needed it, when Jamie died and I could not have managed some things back then without them being there for me to cry on their shoulders.
In the early 90's, I came across this chat program called virtual places, commonly known as vp. I met some wonderful people in there, some of whom I keep in touch with to this day, as we all use voodoo (another chat program) now. I became involved in a native american chat room as well as wolfpacks (think of them as families). Rage and Midnite were among the first I met and became friends with and their friendship means very much to me. They will always be part of my online family. When I disappeared offline, we lost touch but I was very pleasantly surprised to find them part of InterVision when I got back online. We keep in touch nowadays and they own an internet radio station (“The Void”) and are the sister station to InterVision (which is run by KaCee and Skinn).
I also met some people that I have lost touch with from that time period, like Barbac (that I recently got back in touch with).
Then I got involved in a group and met KaCee and Skinn, whom I have known for 12 years now. KaCee is my sis, my confidante, my support group and so much more. Skinn is my bro and we have some very interesting discussions and keeps me grounded. You two mean more to me than you will ever know...we became fast friends back in the old days and when things went very bad for me, you were there for me and just kept talking to me 'til I surfaced again and I will always be grateful for that. During this same period of time, I met my sis Tegan (who is KaCee's online mom) and Shep. I am very grateful for Tegan's friendship and her support...when my panic attacks get real bad, it's Tegan and KaCee I turn to and I am so very grateful for their friendship and support. Tegan is now married to Axe and I love them all very much.
Someone else that I met back in those days was a bro of mine named EaSt. He was a real sweetheart and we have lost touch.
While I was involved in wolfpacks, I became head of my own group and that is where I met Jaggy, who is my online daughter. She is very talented and very busy with kids of her own. She is very much like me in that she has the graphical bug. Her original backgrounds are listed in this shop and always will be. She was part of COF Designs and has supported me from the beginning and I will always be grateful for that.
I have met several very sweet people since I hang out at InterVision (dez, sara, cam, bratti and many, many more). Some are part of the station and some are just very dear friends and we laugh at life together.
Nowadays my life has become very busy with work and volunteering for a local church doing their website, computer work, sound system and much more. I am also co-founder of an online woman's group called WOSIB Lives. When I am online and not working, you'll find me either here in the shop or over at InterVision in voodoochat. If you are interested in any of the stations (and if you're part of voodoo, you know about the stations), I will have a links page with their sites on there as well as other links.
Those who have known me for years know that I also do websites, which I still do; it's just taken a backseat to work and other responsibilities right now.
